Back to school by bus and train made easy with MCard

19 August 2020

With young people going back to school in September, MCard reminds parents and kids about its range of flexible, great value tickets for unlimited travel in West Yorkshire for Under 19s.

The MCard Under 16 and 16-18 PhotoCards not only provide entitlement ID for children to pay for half-fare travel, but can also be topped up with money-saving daily, weekly, and monthly bus and train tickets, offering a cashless payment solution as recommended by the government.

Richard Armitage, Chair of the West Yorkshire Ticketing Company Ltd, that manages and promotes MCard, commented, “All of our Under 19 ticket prices have been frozen since January 2019. We think they offer amazing value. Weekly and monthly tickets provide the best value for regular Under 19 travellers. Our Under 19 weekly ticket for bus travel costs just £10.30.

However, we realise the pandemic has changed normal travel patterns and even for children going back to school in September, parents might be cautious about buying longer term travel and would prefer to buy more flexible tickets. If this is the case, we would advise parents top up their children’s MCards with MyDay tickets.

MyDay tickets can be bought in multiples of 1, 3, 5 or 10, at £2.75 per day or less. A MyDay ticket can still be bought on-board for £2.75. But we recommend topping up MCards from the comfort of your home using the MCard android app which can be downloaded from the Google Play store. Alternatively, buy MyDay at Bus Station Travel Centres and ticket machines as well as Payzone shops.

The tickets will also be available on our new MCard Mobile app for both iOS and android mobiles in late September”.
